This new two storey over basement state of the art primary school building was constructed on a brown field site adjacent to the existing Gaelscoil Chluain Meala in Co Tipperary. The contract was a two phase project with the first phase consisting of the completion of this new structure as pictured above and all attendant ground works associated with the new build element. The new building adjoins the existing school and is built in accordance with the Department of Education’s latest standards and meets the latest NZEB requirements. The building contains eight new classrooms, circulation areas, a new enclosed GP hall, new suite of offices, stair wells & lift areas plus new plant rooms. The initial building phase was interrupted by the Covid Pandemic and delivery was delayed, however we worked with the Board of Management and the Design Team to an amended delivery date and the project handover was met in October 2020 as opposed to the original Pre-Covid August 2020 target. The exterior of the building is particularly striking, Butler Moffat Architects utilised a white hardwearing Acrylic STO render finish to great effect, whilst internally their use of bright effervescent colours on walls and floors lend a feeling of space and light to the design. The external works include coloured macadam play surfaces, bus parking bays and new coursed stone site boundary walls. The first phase was taken over by the client in October 2020 and this has facilitated the commencement of works to the second phase of the project which involves the complete refurbishment and remodelling of the original 1820’s protected school building, currently scheduled for completion in Q4 2021.
