Tom O’Brien Construction were asked by the HSE to organise a significant enabling works project for the proposed New Modular Outpatients Department at University Hospital Waterford, located directly beside the entrance to the Emergency Department. Works involved the placing of foundation pads for the new Modular structure, the remodelling of the existing hospital services and roads in the vicinity, the establishing of new utilities and services for the new Modular buildings and the creation of new carparking areas.
A substantial retaining wall was installed to facilitate the building along with two separate concrete bridges and access ramps to facilitate patients accessing the building at the first floor level. Works also involved the remodelling of the main access roads and associated footpaths leading directly to the main A&E entrance area where careful coordination and a strategic implementation of the works was required in order to minimise any unnecessary downtime to this vital access route.
Tom O’Brien Construction provided a prepared site ahead of the delivery of the Modular buildings, and completed all ancillary site works after the Modular supplier had installed their units, including all landscaping, paving, road marking and installation of street furniture, gates and railings. Tom O’Brien’s team of in house site engineers oversaw all elements of the enabling works package which saw the successful utilisation of an existing car parking facility transformed into a new modern Outpatients Department.
